The Science by Inquiry project at Sweet Briar College is a community of teacher-scholar-researchers who take an investigative approach to the teaching and learning of science and mathematics. Teachers, and their students, develop a better understanding of the nature of science by experiencing the inquiry method through authentic investigation of scientific principles, allowing them to link theory to practice as they learn. Connecting Central Virginia third through eighth grade classroom teachers with college science and mathematics faculty, the project provides participants with a variety of entry points, opportunities, and support for understanding and implementing inquiry methods of teaching and learning.  By creating an educational environment that is both intense and supportive, the project team prepares teachers, and their students, to approach the process and content of science and mathematics with enthusiasm and confidence.
